Voiceover Script Calculator

Do you need to know how to calculate voiceover script length?

Whether you're a voiceover artist, producer, or editor, estimating how long a voiceover script will take to read is an important skill.

Luckily, you can use a simple formula to calculate voiceover script length with ease. Here's what you need to do:

Take the total word count of your script and divide it by 150. This will give you the number of minutes your voiceover will be at an average reading speed or conversational pace.

How many words in a 30-second script?

You can expect a :30 script to have a word count of 75 for a conversational read.

How many words in 1-minute script?

You can expect a :60 script to have approximately 150 words, read at a conversational pace.

Here's a simple graphic below that shows the number of words to the length of the script.

Word Count and Reading Speed Depends On Your Audience.

Knowing word count is crucial for professional voice actors to producers, scriptwriters, editors, content creators, ad agencies, and more. It's vital knowing how long your voiceover recording project is based on words per minute.

Timing is based on speed, whether you use one voice actor or many voices for your narration scripts. Think about your audience. Do they talk fast? Maybe it's an older audience, and you need the voice actors to speak slower. In this case, the average number of words in your script should be less.

Just for Fun

Remember the Micro Machines voiceover guy? He can get a lot more words in :30 script. His name is John Moschitta Jr., aka "Motormouth." He voiced over 100 commercials as the "The Micro Machines Man."

I was born in the late 70's - so talk about 80's nostalgia!
